James is both a Certified Mediator and principal of The Velasco Firm LLC. He maintains membership in the American Bar Association, Section of Dispute Resolution and the Association for Conflict Resolution, Chicago chapter.
James Velasco has been both an educator for over 11 years and a trial attorney for more than 33 years.
James is both a Court Certified Mediator for the Court-Annexed Major Case Civil Mediation Program of Cook County and a Court Certified Mediator for the Chancery Division’s Mediation Program of Cook County.
In his thirty plus years as a lawyer, James has headed litigation firms concentrating their practice in family law, business law and tort law. His experience, in both mediation and litigation, is vast and includes divorce, commercial disputes, contract disputes, general tort, fraud, deceptive practices, medical malpractice, products liability, contract reformation, breach of contract, wrongful termination, construction litigation, complex litigation, mass tort litigation and class action arbitration.
Throughout the current decade, James has honed his skills in helping to resolve complex business controversies involving corporate structuring and governance, succession issues, real estate problems, international contract disagreements, international business torts, partnership disputes, and insurance uncertainties.
He has been a member of the American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
James enjoys traveling, reading, squash, photography, biking to work daily and spending time with his wife and daughter.
